TFC opened its first service station in 2016. In a few short years, we have expanded our footprint to a significant presence in the Western Cape, as well as parts of the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Gauteng and the North West. We are constantly on the look-out for additional opportunities to grow our network in support of our ambitious strategy. Our strategy is built on providing a full retail fuel service, including convenience stores and quick service restaurants, using a multi-partner approach for supply with a strong focus on building solid partnerships and enduring relationships.

Ownership and Governance Structures

Kaap Agri Bedryf Ltd is the majority shareholder in TFC, with C-Max Investments (Pty) Ltd, a wholly black-owned entity, holding a significant shareholding, followed by Empowerment and Transformation Investments (Pty) Ltd (ETI). ETI holds 100% shares in the Kaap Agri Bedryf Employee and Farmworker Trust.

As part of the Kaap Agri family, TFC is able to leverage shared services from within the broader group. Kaap Agri’s extensive supply chain and logistics infrastructure, human capital, financial and accounting support functions along with the maintenance of instore technologies, ensure that we are well-positioned to keep our customer and business partner needs and expectations top of mind whilst operating with agility.

We are proud of our efforts to empower our employees through our Kaap Agri Bedryf Employee and Farmworker Trust. Employees are supported with access to housing loans as well as education-related grants. Through ownership via the Trust, our employees are able to benefit from our growth journey.

Our Board of Directors, which is led by an independent chairperson, is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the company and generously contribute their passion, time and experience to TFC’s governance. Dr Ernest Messina
Dr Ernest MessinaChairman
Dr Messina is a businessman and historian. He completed two Masters’ degrees and a DPhil in South African History. Dr Messina serves as the Chairman of the Groot Constantia Trust and is a former CEO of the Small Business Institute (SBI).

Dr Messina is a Director of, inter alia, the Du Toit Group as well as the commercial radio station, Smile 90.4FM. He leverages his breadth of experience in his various roles and regularly engages in inspirational speaking sessions to corporates and events. He is a published author, including the co-author of the internationally acclaimed recipe book, Weskuskos.

Jayson Abrams

Mr Abrams entered the fuel industry in his final year of study and has remained in the industry ever since. He has been involved in marketing, commercial management, refining, accounting, strategy, and project management, gaining enormous exposure to all facets of the fuel industry. He has also spent two years living in Paris, working at Total’s head office.
Isaac (Ike) Chalumbira
Isaac (Ike) Chalumbira
Mr Chalumbira holds a BSc in Industrial Psychology as well as an MBA in Strategy. His corporate career includes senior positions at global multinationals Procter & Gamble and The Coca-Cola Company. In 2005 he started an entrepreneurial venture – Lionshare Holdings (Pty) Ltd – investing in mainly the fuel energy, real estate, hospitality, consumer goods and logistics sectors. He is an active member of and has various leadership roles in the largest global CEO organisation, Young Presidents Organisation (YPO).
Tasneem Sulaiman-Bray
Tasneem Sulaiman-Bray
An admitted attorney, Ms Sulaiman-Bray is the Director of Corporate Affairs for Kaap Agri. She has a wealth of experience in the legal, strategic sourcing and governance fields. Prior to joining Kaap Agri, Ms Sulaiman-Bray held the position of GM for Corporate Affairs at Engen, where she was responsible for overseeing the company’s brand, sponsorship, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications, and corporate social investment portfolio.
David Gempies
David Gempies
Mr Gempies is the Director of Human Resources for Kaap Agri. He has extensive HR management experience at an executive level and has a special interest in HR strategy, and value adding HR business solutions to enable a company to accelerate its performance. Prior to joining Kaap Agri he managed HR at executive level at Pioneer Foods for 16 years as Executive Divisional HR Manager.
Graeme Sim
Graeme Sim
Mr Sim is a chartered accountant (SA) and the Financial Director of Kaap Agri. He has previously held senior positions at executive and Board level at, inter alia, Brainware Ltd, Sherwood International (Pty) Ltd and Massbuild (Pty) Ltd, mainly within the procurement, logistics and supply chain, as well as the retail environment.

Hands-on Management

TFC’s Managing Director, Jayson Abrams embodies the philosophy that at this company “people are at the heart of everything we do”. A true peoples-person, Jayson’s extensive experience in the oil industry and his background in marketing, accounting and strategy development, positions him to lead with distinction and purpose.

At our service stations, hands-on management is every bit as important. Each of our service station teams are placed in the care of a Site Manager, who is hand-picked and trained to deliver a consistent and superior customer experience. In each region, Site Managers are supported by an Operations Controller and a Regional Operations Manager ensuring sites are well-run.
